In one month, I will be making last minute plans with one week to spare before I fly out to Rwanda. This will be my farthest trip from home! And, it will me one of those trips that I expect will grow my heart and my mind…
As I shared in June, I’m attending an immersion style workshop in Rwanda to both help an orphanage run by a local woman, and learn more about humanitarian photography. This is literally a dream come true. I have wanted to do humanitarian work since I was 16 years old, and while it seems to soon to be able to make it happen, I am learning that it is not. I just have to make the effort.
I made a goal in 2015 to be able to do a humanitarian trip every year after I attended a workshop in Bolivia. And, that is partly why Native Light Photography exists today. I built it knowing that I needed to use my passion for photography in a sustainable way: a way that could earn an income to support my heart led work. While I have a long resume of wedding and family portraiture work, it is hard to survive in the Seattle market. There are so many family and wedding photographers, I decided to niche down to what I can do best: business photography. I love helping business owners get the photographs they need to market their business and grow.
Anyway, I won’t bore you with too many stories. What I want to share is how you can help me with my Rwanda journey. I am paying my own way, using all of my profits to do this trip. So, as a way to help raise funds, and share the love of photography, my fellow traveler and a family photographer, Lena Eivy Photography and I are offering two wonderful classes:
Class 1. Photography Play date - The Golden Hour: capture the photos you’ve always wanted of your children! August 10th, 6:30pm-8pm at Lincoln Park
Class 2. How To Take Better Photographs: find the settings that work on your DSLR Camera! Saturday, August 13th, 10am-12pm at Lincoln Park Cost: $60 per class, both classes $100, plus tax
If those sound like a good fit, or if you know someone who would love to take these classes, please share this link. We’re using Paypal to keep the registration process straight-forward and easy to use. If you run into any questions, please feel free to email or call us.
